I visited the church of St. Basil at Toller Fratrum (Dorset) today to marvel at the extraordinary late saxon font. The church was originally part of a Knights Hospitaler establishment.

Recently purchased two lovely watercolours by the late Laura Bell. "Spring Awakening" has a Cézanne-ish look to it and Laura's mastery of light and shadow is perfect in "Mary & Malc waiting". Now to find places for them!

A plant that always signifies hope - Pulmonaria (Boraginacese). The first wild bees of the year are not far away now here in Salisbury (southern England). We usually get our first Anthophora plumipes in the last 10 days of February. Now there's something to cheer

Working through a long list of taxonomic revisions and additions to European Andrena bee species. Tom Wood must be one of the most productive and insightful bee taxonomists active at the moment. The scholarship here is remarkable. Naturalis have done well to employ him!

Whilst enjoying the late Autumn sunshine this morning (the first for about 3 weeks) I was treated to a noisy flypast of 3 Peregrines over Harnham Hill. We are lucky to have regular sightings in Salisbury but not so often this late in the year

I love what thisleaf miner has done to this beech leaf. An island of chlorophyllous tissue in which to feed. Wonderful
