Perhaps I should have said *which* base.
It’s far from clear at this point what demographic exactly is the center of mass of Dem political power. It sure ain’t the Baileys.

And then they wonder why they can’t get laid.
The brain of essentially every rightwing male - and lots of the women too - is a minefield of unexamined psychosexual insecurity. They’re so far around the bend and so deeply in denial that these paradoxes are entirely lost on them.

I used to say this about Republicans before Trump too. In the short term the best strategy is to extract as much as possible even if it means destroying long term capacity. It’s been their governing strategy and we are all worse off for it.

The knock on effect of THAT particular effort was to mainstream science denialism in general.
Everything from “alternative facts” to antivax madness can be laid DIRECTLY on their doorstep.

This.
Trump is not really a break from historical pattern. He’s just a very extreme manifestation of historical pattern.
GOP is the party that signed on with (and in many cases, is run by the same people who directed) the multi-billion dollar, century-long campaign to discredit climate science.

Ah. So this I can help with. Lawyers wear two hats. We are counselors and advocates. Most often, we’re just depicted as advocates. As a result, in conversations like this, people see us explaining how things work, and think we’re saying it’s how things should work.

Everyone who works for a car company is responsible for traffic deaths, and everyone who has ever purchased gasoline is responsible for climate change.
I’m actually inclined to believe these statements are true, but most people reject this.
If you accept this, the ramifications are … broad.

It’s noteworthy that the person who is breaking with him most blatantly is also one of the biggest whackadoos in Congress. EmptyG is just as detached from reality as he is, and thus has a lot less fear I suspect.

I agree that they are starting to see a political cost for their support of Trump.
What I have not seen evidence of so far is any indication that this is going to lead to them finding some actual courage.

Beyond political considerations, a lot of the GOP are just plain afraid of Turmp and his followers.
They are physical cowards with no principles and currently their situation is pretty cushy, so why would they do anything to disrupt that.

This means that while regular datacenters can shift their load to follow cheap/available energy, the economics of AI are such that those datacenters effectively can’t. Because they are hardware-constrained, they want as close to 100% utilization as they can get.

As I understand it AI datacenters are functionally different from traditional datacenters because AI R&D capacity is compute-constrained and there is a shortage (“shortage”) of the necessary GPU hardware.

Agreed, but that does seem viable IF it’s possible to both make consequences that stick AND do so in a way that is publicly visible enough to satisfy people’s need for accountability.
At this point, though, I’m not sure that there’s enough accountability to satisfy people this side of a guillotine.

In Trump’s case, it’s permission to be shameless. He gives his followers permission to be their own worst selves, and they love him for it.

Well, now we know where he got the idea that reality bends to his will and whim, no matter how bizarre.
I wonder if *Trump* knew the show was scripted?
