My first time in the Swiss city of Winterthur, famed for being one of the locations in season 9 of YouTube show Jet Lag the Game.

But no time to hide in the woods - it’s 10:30am and I need to be on the other side of the country in 3 hours, so I’ve got to go go go…

…where I noticed the artists on this 1990/ Tommy / Pinball Wizard-branded machine had taken a few liberties when choosing where to place the word “England” on a map 😬

I can currently relate to that, with the added quirk of being in a country where I don’t speak the language, in an otherwise empty carriage, and where the app just sent a notification saying we’ve arrived at our destination when Google says we’re still 10 miles out :)

One recurring thing I noticed this week was how many seaside towns effectively shut down by 6pm, which seemed self-defeating for tourism.
Luckily, Weymouth, my final stop, seemed to understand this, and was still thriving well into the evening…

Fairground rides including a helter skelter and ferris wheel are illuminated on the Weymouth promenade after nightfall, with lots of people still milling around the area. (Note: One of the only photos in this entire thread taken after sunset.)

As I took my first steps on Dorset soil, Lyme Regis initially seemed lovely.
However, the seafront was a swarm of people, so I made a sharp exit (only just, mind you - the queue for the once-every-two-hours bus was so long I thought I wasn’t going to get on board).
Looking downhill from the bus stop in Lyme Regis down the main road towards the seafront. As is the norm for these traditional towns, it’s a relatively narrow street with three storey buildings on either side offering the usual tourist shops and cafes, with flags and bunting draped between the buildings across the road. Lots of cars are parked on the left side of the road, making it even narrower for moving vehicles to get past, and the narrow sidewalks are filled with people. A view eastwards from Lyme Regis seafront, with a beachside car park full of cars, and various advert posters for local businesses. A view westwards from Lyme Regis seafront of an incredibly busy beach, filled with thousands of people all with parasols. As a claustrophobe, this is my idea of hell 🤣

I got to Seaton five minutes too late for my connecting bus (a recurring theme).
Sadly, the novelty tram in town didn’t lead anywhere that would help me continue my journey, so I would have to stay in Devon another 90 minutes before crossing my final county line of the trip.
Seaton tourist information sign. Too much text to quote but it begins: Seaton sits on the mouth of the River Axe, nestled between the Jurassic Coast and the Axe Estuary Wetlands. It is the home of the Seaton Tramway and boasts many miles of glorious walks and cycling routes. Take a stroll along our lovely beach and visit our friendly independent shops. They are only a few minutes away and it is a gentle, level walk. We have some great places to stay overnight and a warm welcome awaits you if you are looking for something to eat or drink in Seaton. Seaton's history can be traced back to the Phoenicians when they used Axmouth as a major port. There are Roman ruins at Honeyditches, now a scheduled Ancient Monument, with finds at Seaton Museum. The museum also houses a fine collection of local photographs, archaeological finds and period costumes, and can be found at the top of Fore Street in the town. A random house in Seaton with a small front garden containing multiple flowers. I’m no expert so can’t identify the different species, but lots of different varieties of varying colours. Looking east across Seaton’s shingle beach. Lots of holidaymakers with parasols to protect them on this hot sunny day, and in the distance are the tree covered Haven cliffs. A thatched cottage with a distinctive yellow paint job on the outskirts of Seaton.

I always thought Beer was brewed, but apparently it’s quarried!
Sadly, I didn’t have time to stop to see if the village store sells Beer-branded beer (or indeed Beer wine).
