I still blame Judith for bringing on the end of the world in Not With A Bang :)

What better to do on a Sunday afternoon than watch Tom Scott and chums record a live episode of Lateral Podcast?

Adam’s European tour arrives in Cologne, Germany, where there’s a small little videogame convention going on. I’m sure I can see the whole thing in half a day, right?

…it’s a really good job I’m on a strict budget here otherwise I would be spending a fortune in the gift shop!

As a sports nerd, it would be rude not to visit the Olympic Museum in Lausanne…

(Out of thread note, seems like my posts didn’t upload yesterday. Stupid tech!)

…exactly on time, the Swiss rail network delivers me to Lausanne for an evening’s Diamond League athletics.

My first time in the Swiss city of Winterthur, famed for being one of the locations in season 9 of YouTube show Jet Lag the Game.

But no time to hide in the woods - it’s 10:30am and I need to be on the other side of the country in 3 hours, so I’ve got to go go go…

…although even an hour of sightseeing was a luxury compared to the couple of minutes I had in Austria’s capital at lunchtime while changing trains.

If only there was an apposite musical reference I could make to remind me that Vienna Waits For Me…

Made it across the Polish border too late last night to do any sightseeing, so my planned half-day trip to Brno, Czechia had to be condensed into a 60 minute speed round…

…where I noticed the artists on this 1990/ Tommy / Pinball Wizard-branded machine had taken a few liberties when choosing where to place the word “England” on a map 😬

…but this nerd was happiest in the Pinball museum 🤓

Spent Monday afternoon wandering around in Krakow. Lots of important historical and cultural sights, of course…

I can currently relate to that, with the added quirk of being in a country where I don’t speak the language, in an otherwise empty carriage, and where the app just sent a notification saying we’ve arrived at our destination when Google says we’re still 10 miles out :)

No, you got the wrong protein supplier.
This is KF…D.

Not sure if whoever built the hotel I stopped in last night is an Ian Wright fan?

Definitely doesn’t seem the kind of weather for a flamethrower at the end of every race.
Another reason not to be drawn in lane one!
August 16, 2025 at 3:06 PM
Well that was worth the trip already! Keely breaking the world lead in her first race of the season 🥳

My clothes have barely dried from last week’s trip, but I’m on my travels again. This time (predictably) it’s to watch some Diamond League athletics in Poland.
August 16, 2025 at 12:47 PM
…so I decided to end my trip the same way I started it in Weston Super Mare a week earlier - in an amusement arcade emptying a cup filled with 2ps into a coin pusher to see if I could win my fortune (spoiler: I did not).

One recurring thing I noticed this week was how many seaside towns effectively shut down by 6pm, which seemed self-defeating for tourism.
Luckily, Weymouth, my final stop, seemed to understand this, and was still thriving well into the evening…

This part of Western Dorset is clearly a good place to play a game of “Westcountry village or West Indian cricketer”.

As I took my first steps on Dorset soil, Lyme Regis initially seemed lovely.
However, the seafront was a swarm of people, so I made a sharp exit (only just, mind you - the queue for the once-every-two-hours bus was so long I thought I wasn’t going to get on board).
August 14, 2025 at 1:17 PM
I got to Seaton five minutes too late for my connecting bus (a recurring theme).
Sadly, the novelty tram in town didn’t lead anywhere that would help me continue my journey, so I would have to stay in Devon another 90 minutes before crossing my final county line of the trip.

I always thought Beer was brewed, but apparently it’s quarried!
Sadly, I didn’t have time to stop to see if the village store sells Beer-branded beer (or indeed Beer wine).
