And if you are into geochronology, at poster 80 #IAVCEI2025 Mathilde has a bunch of very precise new ages on submarine volcanism offshore Mayotte🌋
July 1, 2025 at 9:54 AM
Still not in Geneva today 😒 #IAVCEI2025 but if you are interested in volcanic textures and highly explosive basaltic eruptions please go to poster board 97 tonight to see Lisa's work on the 8600 BP subplinian eruption of La Vache and Lassolas in the French Chaîne des Puys 🌋
July 1, 2025 at 9:50 AM
Also, Nicole is presenting poster 37 on pre-eruptive conditions of the 800 BP Quilotoa eruption (Ecuador), a VEI6 dacitic eruption originating from a 15 km deep storage 🌋#IAVCEI2025

Unfortunately I cannot be at #IAVCEI2025 today, but for people interested in olivine diffusion chronometry, please come see our posters 62 (Mayotte, presented by Kalini) and 65 (Ambae, Vanuatu, presented by Eva)🌋

Looking at shear zones and investigating shear criteria on beautiful #Cap_de_Creus with undergraduate students #geoscience ⚒️
May 17, 2025 at 8:45 PM
The greso-pelitic series is getting hotter with nice andalousite (and cordierite) porphyroblasts and again multiple deformation phases #geoscience ⚒️on the way to the cape.

Structural geology fieldcamp for the finishing undergraduate students on beautiful Cap de Creus (with @caroline-lotout.bsky.social and Valérie Bosse). Starting with folding and bedding/cleavage relationships in a very low-grade greso-pelitic series.

I also got some pretty exsolutions in a norite from the Bushveld complex #ThinSectionThursday ⚒️
February 13, 2025 at 10:21 PM
Today I was teaching binary phase diagrams with a solvus to undergrads so here is a pretty perthite with a Carlsbad twin from the hypersolvus Tolla granite (Corsica) for #ThinSectionThursday ⚒️

All pictures where taken in July 2024, the impact figure below was one-month old at the time. Ongoing work on the volcanic history of the island and interactions between the island inhabitants and their volcano is part of the research project "EmVolDiVa" (website in French) emvoldiva.hypotheses.org

The #volcano 🌋is still mildly active, with strong degassing at the summit, and occasional small explosions.
February 3, 2025 at 10:19 PM
The 2017-2018 eruption destroyed the lush tropical vegetation, leaving only dead trunks near the summit - this is a harsh place for animals and plants

For #VolcanoMonday, I give you Manaro Voui volcano, a shield volcano on the Island of #Ambae in the #Vanuatu arc. A poorly known volcano, it flew under the radar until unrest started in the 1990s, culminating in a major eruption in 2017-2018 that lead twice to the evacuation of the entire island.⚒️🧪🌋

Absolutely no water, absolutely no trace of egg yolks. Eggs at room temperature. Enough caster sugar, no substitute. Beat the whites as hard as you can, they should be hard to the touch. Start without sugar, add the sugar while beating. Slow cooking at low temperature (120 °C). Good luck!!!

First day of our undergraduate fieldcamp looking at deformation and metamorphism on the beautiful Cap_de_Creus - deformation in a low-grade gresopelitic sequence and relationships between bedding and schistosity (Cadaques)
