Ethical Farming Ireland
@ethicalfarmie.bsky.social
A voluntary group campaigning for a better life for farm animals. We are against all aspects of intensive farming and live export.

We are told live export is a highly regulated industry.
We are told animal welfare is of utmost importance.
The evidence shows otherwise. DAFM even admits animals are over crowded, stressed and often immunocompromised. But the journey isn't the worst of it.

A bit of good news. Stena is taking the Horizon off the Rosslare/Cherbourg route for a month & the replacement ferry can't carry livestock. That's put a dampener on the industry. It's time farmers started caring for their calves themselves instead of offloading them👩‍🌾🐮

It's so unfair that EU rules state unweaned calves must be fed,what's wrong with depriving them of milk for 30+ hours whilst crammed in a truck 300 at a time. We have the best standards in the EU and should be allowed to break the law!

The most important welfare indicator for pigs is an intact curly tail. 99% of Irish pigs have docked tails 🤔
The main issue is the lack of optimal enrichment.
Finland & Sweden are the only member states that adhere to the EC Pig Directive.

It's not just Stena Line profiting from cruelty now Brittany Ferries has chosen to show the world they are also devoid of morals & compassion. They will soon start carrying calves from Ireland to France, an 18 hour journey during which the calves can't be fed

🛥️ Livestock vessel Shorthorn Express is loading today with 2,000 young bulls at Greenore Port for a shipment to Morocco - a country with appalling animal welfare standards, particularly at slaughter. Many bulls will become sick or injured during the 5 day sea journey, some may die 🐮
