I 100% agree. I think that's why the movie feels so brutal to me. Not because Llewyn can't get his personal life together, but because the often-romanticized folk scene is shown to be just as extractive and exploitative as every other era of music.

I love this movie and think it's the most realistic portrayal of being a musician (in a bad way) that I've ever seen. I'll have to check out their episode on it.
