birdforum is pretty cool for id confirmations but you can tell its mainly frequented by rich western birders (from a thread on how few birds there are in laos/vn/cambodia)
I was in Laos with my family in October 2023 and April 2024 and noticed the lack of birds. In their place was a great number of butterflies - more than we saw anywhere else on our nine month trip overland from the UK to Australia and back (apart from the Sumatran jungle...!) I wondered why there were no birds? It was so unusual not to even see pigeons which we found everywhere else in the world. If anyone knows the historical reason why the Laotians needed to eat their songbirds to stay alive then I'd love to know more about it...
