the steam deck really left that much of a positive impact on people, huh? seeing them do more dedicated gaming hardware is just a step in the right direction

My take on it was a decade ago people seemed happy with at lest Sony and Nintendo as far as consoles whet, whereas now people really want an alternative , especially against MS/Sony.

It's a different time. Back when the Steam Machines were first introduced, they were ludicrously expensive, and many console games never received PC ports. Fast forward to today, and practically every game is on PC, including the majority of Xbox and PlayStation "exclusives", so the timing is right.

Agreed, ten years ago both Sony and Xbox were so different, meanwhile Nintendo's new predicament is higher game pricing. The GabeCube is curious!

Virtual pinball is strictly inferior to the real thing in just about every way, but…

But: it’s also just about the only real option for preservation of old games that we’ve got? The number of working Joust Pinballs (just to pick one at random) has to be under 25 at this point.

If they keep the price low it might outdo both Xbox and SteamDeck, not sure about PS5.

That being said, as a strictly Nintendo gamer, the idea of a PC that can play both Steam indies and VR/light gun games is highly tempting.

Currently, I'm holding out for Switch 2 in 2-3yrs, more games by then!

Imma say it has something to do with a playful aspect, makes it feel less formal and thus enables creativity?

To be fair, the concern over a sitcom comedy relief character in a series known for its serious atmosphere (based on Alien) is VERY valid. Reminds people too much of Other M. Definitely tonal confusion after Metroid Dread.
