It was a brave move! Warner execs had to have been puzzled. Even the track order is daring. But it added to his mystique that he refused to play the game.

I was 10 when Purple Rain hit, and it was a big deal. I loved Raspberry Beret when it was on the radio, but no one my age had the ATWIAD album. My friend's cool older sister had the cassette, and we popped it in. We were not ready for what was in store. It was a long time before I "got" it.
