This accidental Venn diagram from over a decade ago might actually apply to SO MANY corporations.

FITO AMBY ROAPOLO (“Twenty-seven”)

Similarly to Onja, I decided Mijoro’s first public appearance in my art was his twentieth birthday. So this year, on 2025-11-11, he turned twenty-seven.

Meaning that y’all get a pinup picture of him to match his husband’s.

Huh. I don’t usually pay much attention to numbers, but I actually never reached this number on The Other Site Dot Com.

Tsimahitsy Irerianala

Travelers who go through a particular section of the eastern rainforest share tales of a lone wanderer who works tirelessly to keep the forest trails usable.

Power isn’t back yet.

Anyway, have some pictures found on social media.

I just find it funny that Tolkien’s Elves are described as being indistinguishable from extremely attractive humans, and every adaptation/copycat since then has decided that this description translates to… well…

Mahitsielafanjaka (“Straight one with a long reign”). Compare the late 18th century original with the 21st century reconstructed building.

The statue honors Ikidoka, a royal guard who served for so long during the 19th century that the gate next to Mahitsielafanjaka was nicknamed “Ikidoka’s Gate”.

Besakana (“Large beam”), the compound’s oldest building. Compare its original, 17th century appearance with the reconstructed 21st century building.

Manampisoa (“Adds Beauty”). Queen Ranavalona III used it as her main residence until it was damaged by French cannon fire.

Tranovola (“House of Silver”), which originally served to entertain the royal family’s guests.

Reconstruction did not resume until 2019. By 2024 when I went to visit the compound, all of the buildings’ exteriors had been reconstructed, as well as the interiors of all except the wooden palaces of Manampisoa and Tranovola.

Here are photos of Manjakamiadana (“Reigns in peace”).

Rebuilding efforts didn’t start in earnest until 2006, but were abruptly interrupted by 2009 political crisis. By then, the only work that had been completed was the restoration of the chapel, as well as the walls and roof (but not the interior) of Manjakamiadana.
November 6, 2025 at 8:31 PM
For years, Manjakamiadana’s empty stone walls stood like a skeleton visible from much of the city. The situation became worse only a handful of years later when a tropical storm caused part of the walls to collapse.

30 years ago to the day, in the evening 6 November 1995, a fire consumed pretty much the entire Rova (royal compound) of Antananarivo. Within a couple of hours, all the wooden palaces, the wooden interior of Manjakamiadana (the main palace), and the roof of the chapel were gone.

Even better, the large islands of Nosy Be and Nosy Sainte-Marie are both counted as a single city each, which they’re not by any sane definition of “city”.
