this is the "merit" two-step. first, you strongly imply or state outright that the presence of anyone who isn't a straight, able-bodied white man is unfair "DEI," then you argue that just because an institution is all-male and lily-white doesn't mean there is discrimination. that's just merit!
Opinion | DEI and Disparate Impact
The next step in restoring meritocracy is to reject the theory that proportionate outcomes equal fairness.

How many of these 60,000 voters do you know?
NEW: Multiple data analyses show that the voters whose ballots were targeted by a North Carolina Supreme Court candidate are disproportionately Black, Democratic and young.

These are some of those voters’ stories.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. We do NOT have a shortage of teachers. We have a shortage of TEACHING CONDITIONS BEING DESIRABLE!
NC schools are struggling to hire special education teachers. Parents are filing complaints
New complaints follow years of a worsening shortage of special education teachers that's leaving schools without qualified faculty and students without properly provided services.

Me, a public health person, just sitting over here reflecting on the fact that the US has experienced a 7% increase in infant mortality post-Dobbs.

Like, do you realize what that says about this society from an ethical perspective? That we made policy choices that caused this?

The philosopher Viktor Frankl said, “Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.” Buddhists have a name for that space: the sacred pause.
The sacred pause between the election and what comes next
There are plenty of fires to fight right now in America, but there’s a fire inside you, too. Appreciate this sacred pause—this space between fires—and let your flame find its way.

I was getting very frustrated by the male-dominated punditry about the election, and very little space being given to women, and the rage that so many of us feel right now. So I wrote something: www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
Of misogyny, Musk, and men
Women are not okay. We're furious.
