Not just in service of evil ends, but terrible lawyering to boot. All three disqualifying statuses they list (part of occupying army, diplomats and family, and member of sovereign Native tribe) are statuses the child has at birth.
Excerpt of linked article claiming that for birthright citizenship under the US 14th amendment "the status of the parents matters." Then citing to English citizenship law from 1608 referring to obedience to the King. The beginning of Section 1 of the 14th Amendment: "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside." No mention of their parents!

The 1803 essay on the meaning of freedom of the press by George Hay and John Adams uses "the press" to mean a mechanism for printing, protected regardless who uses it, rather than a collection of people whose privileged role entitles them to extra rights
