Back in Kentucky after many years away. I love to read and you can find me on Litsy as @decalino and Storygraph as @encgolsen. I mostly post about my dogs, my cat, books, flowers and the creek. All photos are my own, unfiltered, unless otherwise noted.
Zero sends his best #Caturday greetings.

Today is off to a beautiful blustery start! Iris and I made the most of it with a long walk at the park.

Looks like it's somehow Thursday already and I forgot to post this picture of Zero for #WhiskersWednesday. Better late than never!

The water in the creek is very low at the moment and a couple of fallen branches have created a temporary dam. With all the floating leaves it makes for some beautiful moments.

It looks like early editions left the "young" out--not sure why!

Such a weird transitional time right now--some people still have Halloween decorations up, others have already put up their Christmas lights. There are still cosmos, verbena & sweet alyssum in bloom but we woke up to a light dusting of snow with more to come. I'm not ready for winter!

I saw a great blue heron while out with Iris today. Such a majestic bird!We spent a good portion of our walk trying to move stealthily without scaring it away. Well, I was trying--not sure what Iris thought what was going on.

I went to an early access screening of Predator:Badlands last night & really enjoyed it. Dek, a young Predator considered too weak to bring honor to his clan, has to team up with Thia, a damaged Weyland-Yutani synth to complete his mission on a deadly planet. Fun for fans of Prey and Alien.

It was beautiful today, so I spent as much time outside as possible. I disturbed a few little creatures while clearing approximately one million walnuts out of the yard. To my surprise a Monarch flew by as well, too quickly for me to get a photo.

I'm pretty sure this is the face Iris would make if she understood current events. In fact, it is the face she makes when there's a strange cat in the yard.

October was a great month for scary books whether set in space, nature, the past, an alternate timeline or 1970s Florida. I also really loved They All Fall the Same, a crime family feud set in Kentucky, with brutal action and spot-on dialogue.

It will be November tomorrow but three days of rain seem to have given some of the flowers a last burst of energy.

I saw Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein at the Kentucky Theatre and it was definitely worth seeing on the big screen. A brutally sad depiction, beautifully done.

I really enjoyed seeing Silas House in conversation with Gwenda Bond tonight at Joseph-Beth bookstore, where they swapped ghost stories and discussed his new mystery novel Dead Man Blues.
