Illustrator ✏️ Surface + Product Designer 🪩 Gardener + Native Plant Enthusiast 🌱Living on Snuneymuxw land (Nanaimo BC) 🌲She/Her 😷 COVID competent 🇵🇸
Working on a diploma in ecological landscape design. Learning about grade, water movement, bylaws + best practices. Problem-solving this case study has been fun + challenging. Focus on plants that are low maintenance, zone 4, drought + deer tolerant. Looking at a lot of native plants which I love!

How it started. Laying down some cardboard to hopefully suppress potential weed growth from the seed bank. Only a couple of folks on site at the start but we ended up with about 13 people once the event got rolling. Incredible that we got so much accomplished in just over two hours.

Ooh, that was fun! I didn’t get photos while we worked, but folks from the neighbourhood + beyond came out today for the second part of our boulevard beautification project. Today we moved 8 yards of soil into place + laid out + planted lots of native plants. #nanaimo #vancouverisland #nativeplants

Happy Halloween!

Can’t get enough of this neighbourhood cat who blesses us with her presence every few days. Her eyes are an incredible green-blue colour and she seems fairly young. She’s skittish, playful and looks for pets and scritches from time to time.

Welp, I made it well into 2025 without getting covid, but my luck ran out. Thankful for being multi-vaxed, having access to otc meds, friends who drop off supplies, + ample sick days thru work. Wish access to anti-virals was possible in BC, as well as govt campaigns for clean air + masking. #covid

Nanaimo! We’re getting together to clear out a very overgrown boulevard. If you’re in town this long weekend, we’d love to see you. Tools provided!

This fall we’ll be planting out hundreds of beautiful and pollinator-supporting native plants at this site. #nanaimo #vancouverisland #snuneymuxw

The herons in the nearby estuary have decided to start taking pit stops along the shoreline route near us. They like this cropped off tree and another clump of full height Doug Firs nearby for a break. #nanaimo #snuneymuxw

Here’s my baby ocean spray. Planted last fall in a habitat garden and about 2 ft high. Can’t wait for it to become a monster shrub!

Anyone have experience running a pop-up plant sale? Pls share your knowledge! My native plant seed trays were fairly successful which I wasn’t expecting + now my quiet plans start a native plant nursery are feeling more possible. #nativeplants #vancouverisland #pnw #biodiversity #unlawn #rewilding

Went by VIU for the record-breaking Nanaimo Bar, stayed for the native plants. Look at those blooms! This slope is a restoration site stewarded by students + biology instructor Caroline Josefsson. Focus on drought-tolerant plants of P’hwulhp (Garry Oak) ecosystems. thediscourse.ca/nanaimo/phwu...

Admiring my mini meadow planters. The Sea Blush (Plectritis congesta) is the star of the show at the moment. Accompanied by Roemer’s Fescue, Coastal Mugwort, Woolly Sunflower, Pearly Everlasting, Yarrow, Farewell-to-Spring and more. Last week I saw a hummingbird at the Sea Blush in our backyard.

Current obsession: this incredible project called Re-green North Kensington.

‘This installation transforms a corner of North Kensington using the power of plants to reconnect people to nature and each other.’

Sunny weekend walk not far from the highway in Nanaimo. White Fawn Lilies and what I think is a bushtit nest? Also saw lots of Tall Oregon Grape as well as a bunch of invasive ls like ivy, daphne, daffodils.

Peeping on my mini native plant meadows. These are in planters built on a strange paved slope from a busy street to the sidewalk. Our house abuts the sidewalk; no boulevard lawn, west-facing, surrounded by asphalt + it’s doing pretty well! Planted last spring + reupped last fall w/ plants + seeds.

Having fun coming up with a planting plan for a pollinator + native plant patch soon to be installed in the South End of Nanaimo. It’s a community initiated project that’s connecting neighbours. A once-neglected bump-out will become a vibrant mini habitat for our local pollinators!

Spring blooms in our habitat gardens. Ribes sanguineum (Red-flowering Currant), Mahonia nervosa (Low Oregon Grape), Mahonia aquifolium(Tall Oregon Grape), Oemleria cerasiformis (Osoberry/June Berry). Early food for pollinators!
