Loved being at South Side’s Black History Month Open House yesterday where 5th graders Semira and Mhiy'auna (Mya) created a presentation on me as their Black History Month project. It was such a treat meeting these smart, talented, and creative young ladies!

January’s highlight was teaching trial skills at Harvard Law School as part of Winter Term’s Trial Advocacy Workshop. It was so inspiring to learn from the other talented faculty of this course and witness the next generation of future legal superstars!

The #MissAmerica pageant is this weekend, so flashback to 22 years ago when I had the honor of being featured on the cover of Today’s Chicago Woman magazine as Miss America. I’ll always be grateful for having had the chance to represent IL and all of the strong women in our state!

Thank you for your dignified service and sacrifice, Mr. President! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Breaking news: Jimmy Carter, a no-frills and steel-willed Southern governor who was elected president in 1976, died Sunday at his home in Plains, Georgia, according to his son. He was 100 and the oldest living U.S. president of all time.
Jimmy Carter, 39th president and Nobel Peace Prize winner, dies at 100, his son says
The tenacious Southerner was turned out of office after one term. But he had a brilliant post-presidential career as a champion of health, peace and democracy.

Eager to read this! During the past 2 years, I’ve been concerned that many gen AI companies were profiting from other people’s IP w/o disclosure or compensating them + that the law had yet to catch up. But I’m open to other views, + this article seems to thoughtfully engage this key issue.

A magnificent production of Les Misérables in Chicago! Aside from the gorgeous songs that stay w/you, part of the reason for this musical’s enduring potency is that it taps into still unresolved issues of injustice + inequality, yet affirms the power of redemption, faith, and sacrifice. #OneDayMore

She’d receive my vote for Person of the Year. Gisele Pelicot’s resilience, courage, and humanity are staggering in the face of evil—an evil that would have been unspeakable had she not made the trial public and compelled the world to witness the depravity + cruelty to which she was subjected.
Gisèle Pelicot stood with her head held high in a courtroom in Avignon, France, on Thursday as the verdicts in the four-month rape trial of her ex-husband and 50 other men were read. Her image has become a symbol of female strength around the world, our critic writes.

Loved being w/the family last night to watch my amazing niece Gaby and the Whitney Young Lady Dolphins in the Kenner Klassic. My niece had 14 points in Whitney Young’s win! It’s so much fun to watch my niece and nephews grow and develop their talents! #ProudAuntie

This article confirms what I’ve suspected likely would be true about Gen AI: It’s a powerful + exciting tool that is far more likely to exacerbate inequality than reduce it. This necessitates vigilance in protecting/enforcing IP rights and requiring disclosure/consent when training on data sets.

ChatGPT’s $8 Trillion Birthday Gift to Big Tech
Two years in, generative AI’s value to the world is still unclear. But these charts show that it’s been a bonanza for the largest tech firms.
