I disagree that civil/rational Americans are in the minority. I would agree that civil/rational people on social media are a minority. Social media is like a self fulfilling fun house mirror. It distorts our perceptions, enrages us, then the perceptions become reality. If we let it.

Being civilized and rational is a choice. You fight by choosing that every day. If the argument is that Americans are incapable of choosing rationality and civility, then what are we even fighting FOR?
March 24, 2025 at 3:20 PM
If that is what it takes, then America is already a lost cause. We can either fight to maintain a civilized and rational society or just become another brand of barbarian.

Anyone who thinks a gov shutdown that could be pinned on Dems was not exactly what MAGA Reps were praying for, has not been paying attention. With the speed of Trump’s torching of the constitution, the last thing we need is disruption to the Fed courts. I mean put down the pitch forks and think. 🤦‍♀️

Unfortunately, yes these people are real. 🤦‍♀️

As an American, I was rooting for Mexico and Canada to not play ball with Orange Jesus. What they gave him was nothing, but it was enough to make it so the MAGA crowd calls it a win.

I don’t know how it works in Canada. But here in the US, all I could do was vote. I had no special powers to make other people go vote, nor to prevent idiots from voting. But apparently, we need more hateful BS in the world. So you do you.

Dirt doesn’t pay taxes. People do. So when we talk about money we are talking about biggest population, not who has the most dirt.

Governor Walz, thank you for being one of the dwindling supply of grownups in the room.

Forming? It’s been here the whole time. Our country was founded by the wealthy and for the wealthy. It was 1856 before the last state removed property ownership req. to vote. We did evolve over time. But this isn’t new. It’s a regression.

Also… a good many red states are actually less than half red. Just gerrymandered to extremes. 😑.

2. The way elections work is we pick the nominated individual who we feel will represent us better. Not perfectly. Otherwise, we end up with the person who represents us less.

1. Great. Sincerely. Principles are important. However, one day the choice will be between Mr. or Ms. Meh and the person who takes away the choice permanently. I don’t think we are there yet. But we are heading in that direction. In the meantime…

I was providing some context to the point about the “decades MAGA remembers fondly.”

Ambulances were cheap when they were staffed by mostly volunteers and not equipped to do much more than transport you. If you were dying, you died. How was that better?

I found Henry Winkler on Bluesky today. This makes me smile.

I met my husband on a BBS before the WWW was a thing, before email was a thing and way before online dating and dating apps. Just two techies who hit it off. I’d hate trying to meet someone via an algorithm, though.

I wasn’t criticizing the app (why I said it’s awesome the app exists.) Whatever frees one from the toxicity. I do think that getting upset by and engaging with the toxicity is a choice. Just reminding my fellow plebs that we can make the choice ourselves. Totally get automating for big accounts.
December 29, 2024 at 4:17 AM
I have an app in my head that does the same thing. 👀 🤣. But ya. Even without a big account, etc, the toxic stuff can start to get overwhelming. Always best to remind yourself you don’t have to attend every argument you’re invited to. Also, awesome that there is an app for that.

Every large org. wastes money. And in a large, geographically and demographically diverse country, priorities for spending are diverse. When spending is on something that isn’t our priority, we think it’s a waste. However, OTHER people exist and their priorities are not less important than ours.

I’m not a Democrat. 🙄Believe it or not, you don’t actually know anything about the people you are interacting with (and also judging) on the internet.

So do tell where we cut that actually makes a slight tinkle toward fixing the debt?
