Another example of rooftop solar and batteries accelerating adoption of renewables —

100K Australians install a massive 2GWh of 🔋 in only 7 weeks, with a large backlog

☀️+🔋 system sizes are growing rapidly as prices fall

Trump is working hard to try to kill some of the largest and fastest growing jobs in the US

The economics, along with political support in some states will help renewables continue to grow but there is little doubt that growth will be slowed by Trump’s policies (especially offshore wind)

Explosive growth in the battery storage market in China

In the last 12 months China more than doubled its TOTAL installed base of « new energy storage » — primarily lithium ion batteries — reaching 101 GW as of June 2025 (110% increase YoY)

Renewables on path to become world’s largest energy source by 2026, driven by extremely rapid growth of solar and wind

Now what’s needed is for the growth to continue and start rapidly reducing burning of coal and gas

With the US$750 billion the EU has agreed to burn on US fossil fuels in the next 3 years

Europe could instead add ~10X the solar and wind installed in 2024

Almost doubling its entire installed wind and solar capacity

So burn cash into GHGs or

Build clean energy independence for years to come?

China’s solar growth has been impressive but to be fair most of the difference in that chart reflects China’s rapid growth in overall electricity generation compared to the US

The difference in percent of generation is much more modest — 8.2% v. 6.9% — although it’s likely to grow

We need to bring people closer to science … so we’re putting it behind a paywall???

If the goal is to maximize profits for the oil and gas industry by propping up demand for oil Barra’s a good fit — her forte is selling gas guzzling ICE SUVs and *not* selling EVs

Such ugly dissension. And to think it was only a few months ago they had a harmonious kumbaya moment and unanimously said “nah, never mind” to that awkward part of the Constitution that says insurrectionists who swore an oath “shall” never hold office again.

Supreme Court HAS to enforce it

After all, it’s ALMOST as clear as “no person shall … hold any office under the United States … who, having previously taken an oath … as an officer of the United States … to support the Constitution … shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same”

Bold statement for a guy who bought Twitter because he was mad they had suspended the account of someone (Trump) who had engaged in deliberate deception to try to overturn the result of the 2020 election

Europe + California have reduced fossil fuel generation to similar levels with Europe maybe a bit better (29% per Ember v 31% for California per M Jacobson👇)

Wind and solar make a great pair and many European regions with less sun have become wind power leaders

Europe’s energy transition is going very well with solar growing fast and fossils shrinking to only 29% of generation in 2024

Still lots of room for rapid improvement including because Europe has barely scratched the surface on battery storage

I wonder how much of the difference between the countries where EVs had a weak 2024 (e.g. Germany, France, US) and those well on their way to fully transitioning to EVs (e.g. Norway, Sweden, Denmark) is explained by policy+infrastructure v. propaganda+attitudes
