Yeah, they increased salaries but cut personnel and maintenance. It's so weird that people keep insisting LAFD was somehow better funded to deal with these fires. The Fire Chief says the opposite, as does the article you quoted.

I know I'm a broken record about this, but an earlier emergency declaration would have gotten us additional aerial support well before the winds grounded everything.

There's a paragraph from a Politico article circulating that says the Mayor didn't actually cut the Fire Budget last year. Here's a letter from the Fire Chief complaining about budget cuts (the ostensibly nonexistent ones) just last month:

My parents figured out I needed glasses when I was 7 years old. On the way home from the eye doctor we drove past the KMPC transmitters, which we'd driven past hundreds of times, and I said, "mom, did you know there are wires holding up the towers?" because I'd never seen them before.

I can respect not wanting to work for a lying toady of a publisher, but the Senate is about to reject more of Trump's initial nominees for his cabinet than any president in 183 years, so it's not true that "all the electoral branches are dedicated to loyalty to him over any principle of governance."

The only President in history to have more that one nominee for his cabinet rejected by the Senate was a guy who wasn't elected to the office, a VP from 183 years ago who became President because the guy who won the election died a month after his inauguration. Trump is about to tie his record!

The Dodger Effect: Steve Garvey outperformed Donald Trump by 31,000 votes in Los Angeles County. That means quite a few Angelenos voted a split VP/MVP ballot.
