I never really thought of it from that perspective. It's good to know. I have been more reflexively referring to people as people for a while now though, but now I have a more justified reason beyond "it's a neutral term".

Consequently, the best advice was being told the definition of a writer: As long as you've published something beyond social media, you're a writer.

It's big considering I know some writers think there is "timing" (like publishing a viral article or 10+ articles) to when to call yourself a writer.

Worst advice was being told I made several "flow errors" with an article I sent and they brought this up because they thought their words would make me a "rockstar writer." They also never told me what "flow errors" were.

Birds are communicators as a whole so vocal mimicry is just part of their thing. With enough training, corvids could learn to talk too. It's not too much of a stretch.
