In which I try and fail to organize the many thoughts and feelings I have about Dust Kunkel's amazing new novel, which you should absolutely read. Please re-post! We need to talk this book up!

Had a great time talking with a new friend about how the Bible is way more interesting than we think and why suffering is oddly dignifying. Also, he says way too many nice things about me.

[really quiet whispery voice] uh so guys guess what you can read whatever you want, whenever. you don't have a finish a book, and you can skip boring parts if you want. you can read 17 things at once, and change whenever you want to, just for a different taste in your mind.

A book for anyone who isn’t sitting on top of the world, anyone who’s wondering if God has forsaken them, anyone wondering if they can still have a future worth reaching for.

Another great paragraph from Chuck Hackney's Chosen by the Sword. This book is really growing on me.

OK so I haven't been posting much because I unexpectedly had extra teaching this semester which has been pretty stressful. Which obviously, I mean, in terms of daily obligations, typing on facebook is low on the list.

In August 2022, I predicted six steps Trump would take in a second term to replace our liberal democracy with something like Viktor Orban's Hungary. Shall we review the bidding a month in? 1/10 www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

It's a superb book! "Ghosted" is so worth reading - I couldn't put it down.
@nancyfrench.bsky.social Just read the last line of Ghosted. Thank you for your story and for sharing it. I laughed, cried, was horrified, related, and encouraged. 💕

A new urban fantasy from my friend Chuck Hackney, a professor of psychology and martial arts enthusiast. It's got a really exciting first page and is disarmingly funny - and great reviews on Amazon. Consider buying!

Hi Bluesky! I'm not here to argue politics or religion, or be a jerk to anyone. Only to make the world a slightly more shalom type place. Also talk about the writing and music I love, and the magic and music that is just beyond the edge of normal sight. Also here to gush about Gene Wolfe.

I'm nearly finishing Gene Wolfe's Shadow of the Torturer for the first time and I'm on that magical "Wait, what do you m... OHhhhhhh" moment, so typical of his works.

Reading Wolfe is always a bit of an investigation game. You aren't allowed to read his works passively.

Christmas declares the surprise we barely believe can be true:

God did not wait for us to reach up to Him by our virtues, to deserve Him and attain Him. But God came down, He stooped low, even beneath us, to serve us and win us.

Have a Merry (that is, astonished, awe-struck) Christmas!

So perhaps modesty does not forbid mentioning a book from 2013.
It's certainly not perfect (the writing in the early parts is unfortunately rough) but one of the reasons I write is that there are stories out there that I need that I can't find. So, I write them myself.
