#mla2025 attendees and friends following from home: @harvardpress.bsky.social is having a sale! Use promo code for MLA25 to get 40% off select HUP titles. Might I humbly/shamelessly suggest my book, "On Earth or in Poems: The Many Lives of al-Andalus"?

Just arrived: my copy of @rachelschine.bsky.social's new book "Black Knights: Arabic Epic and the Making of Medieval Race" (U Chicago Press)!

Congrats, Rachel! The book looks fabulous. I can't wait to dig in.

I’m thrilled that my book, "On Earth or in Poems: The Many Lives of al-Andalus," has received honorable mention for the MLA's Aldo and Jeanne Scaglione Prize for Comparative Literary Studies. Huge thanks to the committee for this honor, and congratulations to the other awardees.

Snapshots from this year's Tagore Festival, an annual celebration of Tagore's visits to the U of Illinois in 1912-1913 and 1916-1917. The program included a wonderful keynote lecture by Lisa Trivedi and a performance based on two of Tagore's plays: Red Oleanders (1924) and The Land of Cards (1933).

Please join us on Saturday for the Tagore Festival, the annual celebration of Rabindranath Tagore's visits to Urbana in 1912-13 and in 1916-1917. And props to my amazing colleague Rini Mehta for pulling off this event every year.

I'm sitting on some spare copies of my first book, "Colonial al-Andalus" (Harvard UP) and would love to find a good home for them. If you'd like one (especially if you're a graduate student or junior scholar), please drop me a line, and I can mail the book to you.
