Tonight's capitulation shows that we need new, fighting leaders not only in the Democratic Party, but also in our unions

Their cowardice and routinism snatched defeat out of the jaws of victory

Unions should have held daily press conferences & rallies in front of the offices of Dem senators who refused to commit to hold the line

Unions could have organized huge solidarity funds to help federal workers in need

Unions could have gone all in on mass actions to save SNAP

Everyone should join @socialists.nyc — it's my political home, I hope it becomes yours too🌹

As Zohran explains, we can't defeat MAGA without addressing the conditions that gave rise to it

6/ Running winnable races as economic populists will look different in many red states than it did in NYC, but the core message everywhere will be the same as Zohran's: workers deserve economic security and dignity, so it's time to make the billionaires pay

5/ Zohran won a majority of voters despite the reticence of top leaders of his party to back him, despite a 3-way race, despite Trump openly blackmailing NYC to vote Cuomo, & despite the most intense billionaire-bought scaremongering campaign in the country

That's no small feat

4/ One of the reasons Zohran's win is so nationally significant is that he did great among precisely the demographics that the Dems nationally have struggled to win, such as young men 👇

3/ Yglesias' case for chasing the "moderate center" incorrectly assumes most voters have coherent policy preferences, ranging from very conservative to very liberal

That theory can't explain why Zohran got 35% of "moderates" and 9% of "conservatives"
