The NYTimes today calls NYC City Council member Chi Ossé––who is seeking to challenge the spineless Hakeem Jeffries––"far left."
Coincidentally, the Times is also soon convening an event to platform the avowed white-supremacist and White Christian nationalist Erika Kirk.

My new essay on the Democratic Party and its “fear of breakdown“: We aren’t on the edge of democracy’s demise; it’s already lost. Confronting this reality is essential for meaningfully opposing fascism.

Democrats must stand for something principled and real, not just compromise and civility while fascists enact mass violence across the country. I've an essay out today that underlines yet another set of reasons why caving on the budget is disaster.

Police power in US cities is so overwhelming that we do not in reality have civilian control of the police. No matter how popular, elected officials are terrified of provoking the police behemoth. This is not tenable.

It's amazing that countless American politicians were so incredibly both craven and stupid that when asked by Israeli genocidaires to literally sign onto the slaughter, they all eagerly did so on camera. What a legacy for these war criminals.

Please apply for this key job on Chicago’s CARE team providing non-police emergency crisis response.
Also, these jobs are paid a fraction of CPD posts that require less education, less skill, and less risk. That’s a reflection of the fact that we live in bullshit police state.

Zohran, please build for NYC what Brandon Johnson promised for Chicago but then refused to actually build because he let the police continue to control the City budget.

They got me: I supported a candidate and, now that he’s won, am daring to suggest we should push him to—against immense opposition—make good on his policy promises rather than just pledge unconditional personal loyalty to him (ie, act like standard Party-loyal Democrats without principles).

Obama's 'library' reminds me a bit of the federal prison a few miles north in downtown Chicago. Unfortunately, it will have to be expanded if it's going to house all the war criminals that worked in the drone-bomb-the-fuck-out-of-the-Brown-world Obama administration.

I hope Zohran's advisors study the promise and – so far – relative failure of Treatment Not Trauma in Chicago. Two lessons: we can't build real safety systems if we don't confront 1) the police monopoly on City funds and 2) the medical monopoly on our imagination of care.

Ezra Klein argues that the best way for Democrats to win is to build a party without principles or purpose other than its own power. He seems to forget that we already have a party that offers that.

US judge blocks Trump administration from suspending food aid benefits. Good––and also very bad that we are leaning on a hollow, captured judiciary to prevent Trump from depriving people of the most basic means of life.
