@Talia Maybe you're not aiming high enough if you're looking at journals with 8k word limits. Sometimes all the extra words are a signal you have something more significant to say.

This phenomenon was rare enough in the heyday of automatic phone navigation systems, but now that everything's being replaced with bullshit AI that's worse than useless, it felt like interacting with a relic of exquisite craftsmanship from a bygone day.

And can you just IMAGINE what a story that would be? Political tensions play out in microcosm between these diplomatic couriers, each intimately familiar with the other, perpetually at odds when tensions rise between the cities, but better to travel together than face bandits alone.

@alarith I've definitely applied for grants where they ask for super-duper simple lay summaries in the application, and then use those lay summaries on their website once they announce the funded projects.
