What’s next for #Türkiye?

Uncertainty is back, driving investors away. The currency weakens further, #inflation resurges. With global interest rates rising, Türkiye finds itself back in #crisis mode.

In this graph, I show the simple average #bound #tariff for selected emerging economies compared to the #USA.
If the US administration raises tariffs to match its trading partners, I can predict exactly what will happen.
I refrain from doing so.

History shows that economic crises repeatedly shape societies. A common pattern: power concentrates in small groups, and radical policies emerge. Rome and Caesar are classic examples. Other examples: Spain in 16th or Weimar in the 20th century. Lesson? Economic turmoil often fuels political shifts.

As a #student, I loved my time in #Gothenburg, #Sweden. The only thing I missed was German bread - Wasa or soft white bread just weren’t my thing.
Today, I am having a Swedish day, full of nostalgia.

When politicians use protective #trade policy to regulate international #trade, they often miss the bigger picture. Global trade adjusts itself. A weakening Chinese economy, e.g., impacts its currency. #Tariffs may raise prices, but markets counteract with #devaluation.
