When a book arrives, it feels special: years of life, hard work,. passion.

This one feels very special, thanks to all contributors, Ivan Gaskell, Gert, and our book designer, Sigrid, who does wonders with chiaroscuro.

Last but not least, it feels special, because, well, it's about #Rembrandt!

In the 18th century the University of #Göttingen was given a set of #Rembrandt prints--a wonderful treasure!
We've selected 33 for a special exhibition.
On show is an encounter between Rembrandt's fabulous engraving techniques and the wonders of modern scan/print technology.
Doors open: 13 November.

It's the year to commemorate the #Peasants'War of 1525.
#Freedom!
Not a Prussian affair, so not much in Berlin Museums, but all the more in Schwaben, in Allgäu, in Thuringia.
The finest academic event will be in Bad Frankenhausen:

This tiny #kitten was born on Palmsunday.
I found it, in need of help.
We live in the time of strongmen & billiobros,
a world of vanity & vulgarity.
The #kitten stands for the promise & fragility of life.
Last night it passed away, in my hand.
Happy #Easter

Returning to #Machiavelli, after many, many years, for my MA-Seminar. It is a real pleasure to (re)read a mix of older and more recent studies. Doing so, at least partly, in Tuscany gave it the extra touch.

Publicity for a friend, one of Holland's finest historians: this is Frank van Vree's opus magnum on the Dutch memory culture of the Holocaust, and of many other dimensions of Dutch war time experience and suffering.
A humane and erudite study, with essays shining in nuance.

Our study of #AnneFrank as German Jewish refugee, Amsterdam author, global icon. My essay puts Anne's diaries at the crossroad of her family's culture of Bildung and the Dutch female novelists she loved so much. To read and write was to defy; it was Anne's quest for a free self.
