Black and women workers are facing elevated rates of unemployment in Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia in 2025. This divergence could be due in part to disproportionate effects of federal layoffs, as federal employment is concentrated in the DC-metro region.

1/ While SCOTUS hears oral arguments about the legality of Trump's tariffs, workers are feeling the impacts.

In 2024, our non-resident scholar @nirupama.bsky.social was asked whether tariffs create jobs. Her answer? "No, they don't."
