Charlie Kirk’s murder was utterly abhorrent and corrosive to our politics.

So was much of the reaction to it- including from his allies.

My piece.

No Boris Johnson, Charlie Kirk did not represent "common sense"
His murder was a tragedy. Yet it was politicised by his own side instantly. The reaction revealed much.

Students feeling like "another face in the crowd" in #HigherEd is a worry. Could a simple tool foster a sense of belonging?💡💗
Couldn't attend #TLConf2025, so here's an article about how I use @microsoft.com #Reflect with classes @unistrathclyde.bsky.social.✨

Faces in the crowd: the simple use of technology to connect large engineering cohorts in higher education
Feeling like just another face in the crowd is an all-too-tangible reality for many students in large university cohorts. Beyond the anecdotal recognition of this, the impact that a reduced sense of b...

Challenging a narrative: how innovation and care drive success in Higher Education
A while ago, I read an article entitled “Decline and fall: how university education became infantilised”. Rather than simply explaining why I profoundly disagree with its premise, I’d like to offer a ...

How are you redesigning your writing pedagogy to account for generative AI?

Rather than banning AI, high school English teacher @jenroberts.bsky.social is centering “practices that naturally lead to more authentic writing.”

Here are 3 strategies that work for her.

Can we normalise this sort of language, please?

Loving your students doesn't mean pandering or making your subject artificially easy. It means showing respect, helping them to feel included and valued, and instilling a belief that they are capable of success.

Interested to hear, from those in higher education, how do you effectively engaging students with feedback?

I've been testing a "feedback implementation opportunity" that allows students to improve their grade on an assignment before seeing their grade.

What happened when this school structured a course around cognitive competencies—not traditional academic products like projects or essays?

Hint: *So much learning.* 🤯
Designing a Course That Develops Students’ Metacognition
By shifting their focus to the process of learning instead of the product, students are encouraged to develop critical cognitive competencies.

Would love to know others' thoughts on this...

GenAI inevitably changes aspects of education. But, I don't think we need classes on how to use these tools explicitly. The core literacy of critical thinking and "truth seeking" remains the same but needs more emphasis.
