ProgLib WW living on a blue island surrounded by a vast red sea. Wife of a multiple myeloma patient. ADHD. Past childbearing age but furious on behalf of those who aren’t. I’m one of the LGBTQIA+ family & try to be a good ally to the rest. Owned by cats.
I loved it, but since obviously you don’t know my taste I will say that I watched it based on a good review at RogerEbert.com. Also the original play (both starred Lois Smith in the lead) won a Pulitzer.

Yes, half-and-half is purple and 1/2% is more of a magenta. I actually had to look that one up because we seldom buy half-and-half in large quantities, so it’s in a carton or bottle for us.

I’ve made this many times, it’s excellent! I once served it with whipped cream flavored with Chambord and we all ate enough to regret it, thereby proving @scalzi.com right.

One year my mother, who doesn’t eat sweet potatoes, made them for us. Canned yams in syrup, undrained, mashed into a casserole, topped with crushed pecans and marshmallows. Bad enough but she forgot to buy marshmallows so used some leftover fruit-flavored ones. It was not Good Eats.

We used to have a cat who loved to sit on the side of the bathtub and drink the warm water. We said it was her people soup. I bet Scarlet would have loved a soup bomb in the bath.

Now we have a new tradition. We have never gone to their place for Thanksgiving again and every year since THAT’s what I’m thankful for. 4/4

frozen pumpkin pie my dad loves. Except Dad has always disliked pumpkin pie and only chokes down a tiny sliver (with a lot of vanilla ice cream) to make Mom happy. We never ate pumpkin pie when I was a kid but somehow once we were grown it had become a longstanding family tradition.

anyone to help in any meaningful way. Everything is canned/boxed and yet it still takes about 6 hours to make the whole meal. Plus, the turkey is always desiccated, er, “cooked thoroughly to be safe”.

I’m an accomplished baker but I’m forbidden to bring any desserts because she always buys the

9 yrs ago my spouse was diagnosed w cancer. That first fall he was miserable, sick from chemo and in pain from PN, so we told my mom we wouldn’t be coming for Thanksgiving.

It was our best Tday ever.

My mother is an indifferent cook at best and likes to complain constantly while not allowing

Did you see he started a new series this month and starts with roasting a turkey? It’s on YouTube.

I’m often struck by this fact when watching @tastinghistory.bsky.social. Max often comments how in De Re Coquinaria or other historical cookbooks that you have to interpret because the basic instructions weren’t written down. But it’s like that NOW too!

It’s what she was hired for.

Nope, whole is red and skim is blue. And 1/2% (my preference) is purple.

I’m a former Kroger dairy stocker.

Yep. Good catch!

I hear you. My mother is a firm believer that you must cook meat “thoroughly” but ham gets a pass because it’s already cooked. I’m not a big ham fan but it saved many a holiday dinner for me.

It’s already roasted quite a few people. Literally.

Axl Rose. He wrote a whole song about it.

I play this every year for my daughter on her birthday. She hates it. 😈

Thanks, Cat. We’re not there yet (you’d think after doing this dance twice before I’d know the dates would fluctuate wildly) but I just mentioned it to him and he replied, “Y’know, I have some pears in the fridge right now…” I think we can assume it’s a success.

I absolutely agree.

Oh, I hope so! I hope he’s pants-shittingly terrified at what he’s chosen to align himself with. He bought the ticket (or more accurately Peter Thiel bought it and him) so now he has to ride the ride.

He THINKS they will. But if he causes them the slightest bit of inconvenience, never mind trouble, they’ll toss him under the nearest bus.
