Northern Cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis): This North American bird is found in southern Canada, eastern USA and Mexico. The 23cm (9.1in) bird is mainly granivorous but also feeds on insects and fruit. Remarkable shot taken by Lanny Thompson in Arkansas, USA.

It's International Bat Appreciation Day which is every day for us bat fans. I've made quite a few paintings inspired by them over the years. I combined watercolor with soft pastel to create "Walking with Bats and Fireflies."

Laying off 7,000 IRS employees (during tax season) isn't about efficiency.

It's about making it easier for the rich to evade taxes.
