Tomorrow, I'll have three minutes at a faculty discussion session to explain why I'm so committedly against AI. Should be fun.
Universities across the world seeing this:

"its only wrong 45% of the time!!
Lets buy free licenses for our students, staff and faculty!!
Lets lock into contracts with rapacious predatory AI companies with shitty technofascist politics, sucking up water and jacking up electricity prices!!"

gfd it people, don't obviously use LLMs to write _academic papers_. What is wrong with y'all that you do not understand how that's a dumb fucking thing to do?

The entire-ass point of academic papers is for you to tell me what you think. If I wanted to know what an LLM thinks, I WOULD ASK IT MYSELF.

The effort is the point.

I really love free little websites with a single, useful tool - what are your favourites?

I use symbolsalad.com basically every week. It has a huge number of unicode symbols that you can copy, including Greek letters and absolutely loads of math symbols.

Combining these images reveal the length of the night changing throughout the year, the passage of clouds and the motion of the Moon and the Sun through the sky. #astrophotography

Dear academics

We could dramatically reduce our administrative workload if we all just agreed not to ask for reference letters until we made our list of finalists.

This is massive collective action problem has already been solved by…

…every other industry on earth.
Who is for abolishing grad app letters of rec at the point of application? Would it be so bad if letters were requested AFTER candidates were shortlisted? If we do this at UCSD who will join us?

A favorite recent project: Peakscapes. I love the layered looks you get in the #mountains, and I always want to be able to name everything in view. These designs provide a cleaner, more idealized view of the landscape than a photo can.

Are they #maps? Or geographic art? I'm not sure.
