Consider teeth, as always.

No one person needs to be twirling their evil little mustache and going "ah ha, we can identify who grew up poor!" but I'm betting you're seeing some very nice teeth in your short form videos.

A kid goes from their short form social media, carefully curated to exclude visible disabilities and marginalizations, to a video job interview, which does the same thing.

And both, paired, make this whole process perfectly normal. The pattern that emerges is seen as just normal and unbiased.

The result is a workplace that has fewer disabled people than you'd expect, fewer trans people than you'd expect.

And a social media environment where it seems normal that none of the creators you follow, are deaf.

Just like with employers, no one actually has to twist their evil little mustache and go "ah ha, this allows me to find a reason to not hire fat people or people who have a speech impediment!"

It just emergently happens, and no one person can be blamed for the pattern that emerges.

to be clear, it is fine if you just want to dick around! that's what i mostly do on here. but the idea that "you're giving up the fight to influence people by not using X" is belied by the fact that effectively *no one* uses X. and i don't see any of the "use X!" people on tiktok or youtube.
