Awfully sad to hear of Longley's passing. The last few lines of "Ceasefire" strike an incredible emotional chord & his work is all too relevant at the moment. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
The poet Michael Longley has died at the grand age of 85. He was one of the greatest lyrical poets writing in the English language. I feel the loss already of his necessary voice.

Storm Éowyn, tonight/tomorrow morning, is expected to be one of the most violent storms Ireland has experienced. Severe warning issued by Government to stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and take action to protect yourself and your property.

Proud to vote this evening for the draft Programme for Government & support the return of Fine Gael to government. Stability, security & enterprise were the key themes of the evening. I look forward to what we can deliver over the next term in government.

Pleased to see inclusion of commitment to support the National Digital Research Centre (NDRC) & transfer responsibility for it to the Department of Enterprise. An important decision to support Irish start ups & one of the issues I raised with FG's PfG team.

Ireland's doing well & Irish people know it. Explains how Fine Gael & Fianna Fáil were able to buck international trends in November & look set for a return to government.
The Irish people are very satisfied with their lives, and are among the most satisfied in Europe. Irish people rate their lives as 7.6 out of 10 on average, only slightly behind the Finns who are the happiest in the EU at 7.8. We are lucky to live here. 🇮🇪🇪🇺

Got through some good reading over the Christmas break. Some very interesting insights from Blair in his new book - particularly in his chapters on policy & the need for government's to embrace new technologies for their State's to continue to thrive.
