Cali has been very needy lately, crawling under blankets, and even once going inside my pillowcase. I realized the reason is that it's finally getting a little chilly, and she needs heat. So here she is on her heating pad!

What a difference 2.5 months make! I took this plant out of its tiny little pot, put it into a large pot with rich soil, and it's growing like crazy. So much so that I cut off the top (the apical meristem, the lead) because it's just getting too tall. The lead is now in a glass of water.

Dinner tonight was fried shishito peppers and mushroom risotto. The mushrooms and shishitos were from the Farmer's Market. It was excellent!

I noticed this graffiti covered rescue ring on the Diversey bridge over the Chicago River. Even in what feels like the worst timeline, the bureaucratic city of Chicago has unbent far enough to put out infrastructure to save people's lives. Which, beside the beautiful sunset, gives me hope.

Yes, really, this is the same plant, one month ago and today. I knew I'd been erring by starving it and not watering it enough, but the transformation is shocking. Now I know that the rocky potting medium I'd been using was not a good choice.

I haven't eaten any of the parsley I bought this spring and planted in my backyard. But this swallowtail caterpillar sure has! Need more Apiaceae (parsley family) for this caterpillar, stat!

New manicure! Pastels with a sparkly topper. I got two of the pastels and the topper from Target on clearance.
Generally speaking, I'm not a fan of pastels, but I really enjoy having pastel nails.

My favorite Shefflera bonsai before, during and after repotting today. I'm going to go looking for a more interesting rock and potting situation, but I wanted to expose the long root and see what I have to work with. I'm very happy with the progress here!

Today was Schefflera repotting day! I am turning this one from a very unsuccessful bonsai (I wasn't giving it enough food or water, and it's just a stick) into not-bonsai by putting it into a much larger pot.
