I revisited the Euura miliaris sawfly larva earlier today to find an ichneumon wasp working its way around them despite their efforts to defend themselves. Amazing how it holds its wings up to avoid being clobbered!

I love the way they dangle their legs while leisurely flying along a hedgerow. To me they look like colourful daddy-long-legs and are about the same size too. I would love to film them but only managed photos so far, not liking the taste of coffee puts me at a disadvantage, that's my excuse :)

I thought adults feed on nectar too but found "Adult ichneumonids feed on a diversity of foods, including plant sap and nectar; females of some species also feed on their hosts by sipping body fluids released during oviposition, or even stabbing host and non-host insects to imbibe their body fluids"

I think this is Heteropelma amictum. Apparently its common name is the Hedgerow Darwin Wasp, I'm not sure how recent that is but in Falmouth in August it is often seen flying along hedgerows on the coastal path. Hats off for your filming, not for the first time I am envious.

Thanks Ian, I am hoping to return to the cemetery with my camera as I would like some clearer photos. Ideally I will try to net him to photograph him in a tube and then release.
