I love the way they dangle their legs while leisurely flying along a hedgerow. To me they look like colourful daddy-long-legs and are about the same size too. I would love to film them but only managed photos so far, not liking the taste of coffee puts me at a disadvantage, that's my excuse :)

Hi Ian, @ianbeavis.bsky.social I spotted this bumblebee in Falmouth cemetery yesterday. The reddish hairs on the tip of its abdomen were clearly visible but not that obvious in the photo from my mobile. What are your thoughts on it being a male Bombus sylvestris? I can only find pre-1970 records

Spotted this female Sand tailed digger wasp (Cerceris arenaria) this afternoon in my Falmouth garden. Being a solitary wasps she both digs her nest and provisions it. Her usual prey is weevils.

I have to say that this Ruby tailed wasp was remarkably calm and obliging after @willleohawkes.bsky.social released her from a tube onto this Kidney Vetch flower. I think Will could be a wasp whisperer!

Small wasp on Mexican fleabane (Erigeron karvinskianus). When I first saw these flowers growing in many walls in Cornwall I thought they were daises.

The solitary mining bee Andrena bucephala is unusual has it nests have communal entrances. In this clip two different bees return to the same well hidden entrance. These nests are also perennial and this one in Falmouth's Victorian cemetery is likely to be at least nine years old.

One of my favourite bees too and luckily they can be found in Falmouth's Victorian cemetery, only about 3 other locations in Cornwall. I managed to film this female visiting Speedwell yesterday.

Female Red-girdled mining bee (Andrena labiata) visiting Speedwell flowers in Falmouth cemetery. Similar looking to Sphecodes cuckoo bees and some solitary ways but none of these collect pollen on hind legs.

Likewise I rarely see it being visited causing me to ponder if this was a clever individual that had figured out how to access the pollen or whether it was more widespread but I have overlooked it. This shot shows her probiscis out, so yes, I think she was collecting nectar.

Another species of cuckoo bee visiting my garden, not a great angle to id from but I think Nomada flava is a possibility.

Female Marsham's Nomad bee (Nomada marshamella). As a cuckoo bee she spends most of the day trying to sneak into Andrena scotica - Chocolate mining bee's nests in my stone wall.
