@englishelective.bsky.social
Former Alaskan. Currently in the hinterlands of NYS, living in a 100-year old house in a permanent state of repair. I used to teach English, now I just do it for fun. I have two labradors, 4 grown kids & an H. I'm not your drivetime podcast.
These? One of the few times the name is purely functional.

I have now read two popular fiction & one nonfiction books that are horrible. I'm going back to the two I was reading before this. Maybe I should just start looking for the gold seal...

My mom gave me this to donate to Goodwill. 1977 Star Wars lunchbox thermos. Don't think it's ever been used.
I did not donate it.

Found this news source @groundnews.bsky.social from @underthedesknews.bsky.social .
The Blindspot feature is great for seeing which side of the news is being underreported in blue/red leaning publications.

There was a major train/ semi crash in Fairport last night. Major roadway. Major train junction. These are the top 3 "news" articles as of 8:49 am:

Are roads open? Did anyone contact Amtrak or CSX? Will I be able to get to that fall bucket list?!?
I remember when we had a newspaper in the town....

If NPR isn't getting federal funds any li get, why start your hourly news with Jimmy Kimmel & soft-pedal the horrific, embarrassing speech to the UN?

We didn't increase our contribution to public radio to get this pap.

Today I had one of the best moments as a teacher (ret.)-a former student, who became an English teacher, asked me for a poem that we used to read on September 11. I still miss teaching so much, but knowing that he is reading this with his class somehow makes me feel better.

I remember driving my kiddos to school the 1st year we lived here & What I Got was on the radio.

Post a perfect album form the 90s that isn't Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden or Alice In Chains.

I rediscovered this old #Rowenta that I've had since the 90's, when I was living in the PNW. Cleaned it up & she still works great.

Three years ago, Mom rang the bell at Wilmot Cancer Center. Three-time cancer survivor. Still here, still feisty at 91.

Funny, 51 years ago politicians still felt they had an obligation to what was best for the integrity of the nation.

RIP Ryne Sandberg (2B). Those 1990's Chicago Cubbies were heartbreakers: Ryno, Mark Grace, Sammy Sosa, and "Wild thing" Mitch Williams. I hope you get a heavenly pennant 💙🧢 ⚾️

On the one hand, just when you're starting to get past it, an envelope is thrust in your hands & you have to order your dad's Korean War Veteran tombstone.

On the other hand, another envelope is thrust in your hands & you have your Irish grandparents' birth certificates from 1896 & 1901
