Most likely benign, the drone was near the historic Akershus fortress in central Oslo that still houses several military and government offices, which in turn is just next to one of the cruise ship docks (lots of tourists). Still, glad the police followed up!

Some of this looks like ideas that probably have been floating around the DoD for a while, such as capability vs project based funding - what here do you consider the most dramatic/radical?

Agreed - it’s really dangerous to generalize from specifics! For one thing, unmanned systems have likely become far more important in this conflict due to neither U nor R having an effective SEAD/DEAD-capability, dramatically reducing the overall effectiveness of “traditional” air power

Do we believe the Navy will voluntarily tie itself to the same prime contractor as the Air Force...?

Well, we used them for what they were actually built for - high-level bomber interception - and not low-level strike…!

Again, not sure what you are referring to, and I’ve been involved with the Norwegian side of the program since 2012. There are no separate contracts, no discounts - partners buy on USG terms, FMS on FMS terms (which explicitly forbid discounts, must be done at cost plus)

Bit confused on what you are referring to. Number of platforms sold has steadily increased in recent years. They are sold on capability and potential for upgrades. Maintenance and spares are important, but the the main sales pitch

The F-35 program rolls on just fine. The price of operating the jet for the US has little to do with partners, and everything to do with how the US organizes its own maintenance and operations

Ditto @claudmajor.bsky.social - such a peace would prolong the suffering and danger Ukraine, and also for Europe at large...!

Genuine question - which are these 19 MBT-designs? I count 4 main ones - Challenger, Leclerc, Ariete, Leo 2 (5 if you count Altay), a smattering of ex-Soviet, and a few imports (M1, K2). Standardization is good, but remember that also leads to significant industry consolidation.

Is he referring to the magnetic catapults on the Ford class? Last I heard they were working fine… and don’t lift anything…
