Colorful autumn leaves remind us that as life gets tough or our body no longer works as well as in our youth, we might find ways to discover and show our true colors.

We don't often think of adversity as an opportunity, but the natural world has much to show us when we think in metaphors.

Medical providers who work in hospital emergency departments, Intensive Care Units, Palliative Care, and hospice, sometimes use the term "daughter from California" to refer to a person who isn't up to date with their parent's medical wishes.

This can cause big problems. Let me help you sort it out.

Not a big deal compared to some accounts, but I've been providing useful information, plus connecting with folks in need, curious people, and other professionals, here since April 21, 2024.

This is my 1000th post! I look forward to ongoing conversations with you all!

Look how carefully Google avoids talking about disability or death.

Your legacy consists of three parts. You're already working on the first part, and maybe you've finished the third part.

Legacy projects pass along your wisdom and memories to those important to you.

Palliative Care doc explains how adult children can help their parents get medical care that matches what they value most.

Your parent's values + honesty + a frank doctor = conversations pointing toward the best care direction(s).

Considering and preparing for the fact that we won't live forever can be about more than decisions and paperwork.

The process can be an opportunity to set a course for the rest of your life that's congruent with your deepest held values.

It's understandable to want to know where a serious illness may take us.

We can rarely know the *timing* of your next physical or medical change. But we can usually know which change is next.

Ask your doctor or palliative care specialist. If you're uncomfortable asking, let me help you be brave!

Often, when we're in the middle of a tough time like a serious illness, we forget to stand back and look at life from a broader perspective.

Whether you agree with this quote or not, does it bring you new thoughts or ways of looking at your situation?

If your dad is still alive, here's an opportunity to enrich your relationship.

Even if he's not ready to go past the first question now, opening the door to these topics can bring the gift of ease.

It's freeing for him to know you're open to talking about these subjects and want to understand.

Completed Life Initiative recently compared the number of MAiD prescriptions written vs the number of people who took the medications. Last year there was quite a difference.

Conclusion: Simply having their DwD Rx or having the meds in their home provides comfort to some nearing death.

Would your doctor steer you toward a certain treatment without realizing you might want to consider another treatment directions?

Some handouts that medical providers give their patients don't talk about all types of treatment equally.

This study on advance kidney disease handouts identified bias.

There's not just one "right" way to prepare for the rest of your life.

Getting anything accurate on paper is great for your first time!

Taking time to go deeper gives you a better result.

I can help you with any level of effort you choose. I've helped hundreds of people sort this out!

What services does an Aging and End-of-Life Guide offer?

Each practitioner chooses to provide care, information, and support in the areas they're familiar and comfortable with.

In my practice, I specialize in helping answer the questions in this graphic.
