As far as I can tell this is a pretty consistent and (to those In The Know) by this point rather familiar finding: whatever it is LLMs are doing, it's not deduction in any good or reliable sense. Worth stressing tho, cos there's a lot of public misunderstanding here.

People need to take a breath about some of this stuff. AI tutoring has been a research area for DECADES. They have always been a good idea to scale the best methods of teaching: one-on-one education.
But now that everyone hates LLMs, I guess this is a bad idea now?

The negative responses to this are incredibly dispiriting.
That is clearly a solution that saves time for faculty, teaching assistants and students, avoids the perils of getting wrong answers from the internet, and potentially allows us all to focus on more productive aspects of learning.
