My piece is a burning haibun, a form invented by torrin a greathouse, which takes a piece of original proses and whittles it down. Here's a little taste of the prose portion:
only child a burning haibun with thanks to torrin a greathouse the cashier at the liquor store thinks/I have a brother my exact/height and weight/with my exact haircut/he thinks my brother and I share/green eyes that tilt down/at the corners when we smile/that to smile at each other/would be like an only child/smiling into a mirror/my brother has skin free of makeup/hair free of product/my brother only shops/on weekends/in a boxy carhartt jacket under which/the cashier can imagine/firm biceps/defined deltoids/I shop the occasional weekday dinner rush/in slacks and blouses and just enough/makeup to avoid being asked if I am sick/I understand now/ how clark kent felt like a new/man in a tie and glasses/when my brother is in the store the cashier is/alight/attentive/has commentary on his love/of seasonal ipas/his desire/to sample local breweries/when my brother is in the store he receives unwavering/attention/the cashier wants to know/how the team is doing/if my brother has seen the movie at the local theater/if he would like to/when I am in the store/the cashier wants to know/where my brother is
