Posting another for @rfsmith.bsky.social and #PromptCombo #Memorial

@jenthorne.bsky.social brilliant Pipe poem reminded me I'd written this almost a year ago, there's something about New Year that revives old memories.

I'm not sure why this old memory popped up today. Perhaps it was prompted by the few poems I've read here so far. Back later to read more.

This #PromptCombo #ThisPoem is bringing out my whimsical side, so here's an older one of mine from my drafts. I rarely rhyme but thought this one might be fun to read out loud. I hear it in the voice of Craig Charles.

A very quick instinctual scribble as a bit of fun for @victoriaspires.bsky.social wonderful poem prompt. If I have time I will try another more considered response.

Luckily for me I had written a wee poem about the North Star a short time ago. I just had to find it again! Written to a picture prompt, I hope it works without it too.

Sharing for #PromptCombo #NorthStar

I can honestly say this is the only poem I've written of this nature, not quite sure what I was on at the time. It was early in the Covid pandemic, if that had a bearing?

Back to read more posts later.

Delighted to have a poem on this new anthology highlighting the unexpected unconventional beauty of urban spaces and often unconsidered small creatures.

My poem is in praise of Woodlice 🙂

Available world wide via Amazon

An old poem of mine that I can't exactly say where it came from and I'm still not sure what it means for me. It was inspired by "The Room" by Kevin Hart, the Anglo-Australian poet-theologian, not the US comedian.

This strange offering is aiming to be a metaphorical piece, about aging if that's not obvious. It's literal too and experimental for me.

The cold and damp weather is getting into my joints.

As I'm in prose mode right now (stealing a march on my 50k words drafted in November) here's one of mine from #TheEkphrasticReview

Quite a personal one, also a quick write this morning. Rumour has all of my family coming from Scotland to (Northern) Ireland between 1600 and 1800s.
Thoughts welcome!

I've missed a couple of recent prompts as I've been away. Here's a relatively quick write based on a real artifact that I've seen scare the living daylights out of numerous people. For @alanparrywriter.co.uk and #PromptCombo #mannequin

Sorry / not sorry for this sentimental poem, first published in The Milk House in June 2024, now sadly behind a paywall.

A late attempt for #promptcombo #ancestry for @victoriaspires.bsky.social

Irish genealogical records are very good for 1840 to 1921 and, for Northern Ireland anyway, a bit of a challenge otherwise.

Travelling far from home and supposedly digitally detoxing. I scribbled these lines yesterday for @thewombwellrainbow.bsky.social #PromptCombo #history
I've read a couple of poems here, hoping to read and comment on a few more if I can

Here's another #PoemsAbout #Facades, this time using @alanparrywriter.co.uk prompt 7 The Luxury of Not Caring.

It's based on a recent news item

A very experimental one from me, not my usual at all. Ekphrastic too (Dali image is from Wikipedia)

Any thoughts welcome on this strange piece

Inflicting another one for #promptcombo #winged for @hool415.bsky.social

An old piece, I'm hesitant to call it a poem, maybe descriptive prose with line breaks 😉 since I wrote it we've also had two acrobatic trainer planes and an autogyro, as well as many repeats of the mentioned aircraft 🛩️
September 3, 2025 at 2:35 PM
A very quick musing I'm hesitant to share having read some cracking poems for #PromptCombo #Winged for @hool415.bsky.social

However, it's quite typical of my style and I have dozens of bird poems that are a variation on this theme. I might share something different later this week 🐦‍⬛

Here's my attempt for #PoemsAbout #Riots for @alanparrywriter.co.uk @thebrokenspine.co.uk

The Golden Shovel uses a quoted line as the line ends. The two closing stanzas use the quoted lines at the start and end too. Just playing with form 🙂

My take on the topic this week, I'm sure a lot of my writing could easily sit under this label 🙂

For @victoriaspires.bsky.social and #PromptCombo #Woods. I've unearthed a very old one of mine from not long after I started writing. A rare foray into rhyme. I may try a new one too if I find time this week.
