I like some stuff (art, poetry, history, philosophy, dogs, rhinos)
I dislike some stuff (fascists and their enablers, mosquitoes, slugs)
I do some things (gardening, walking, cycling, nursing)
I don’t do others (drive, eat meat, walk my reactive dog)
Ever since I got this succulent, it’s been threatening to die and now suddenly has decided to flower! Sitting outside in that blistering summer seems to have done the job.

Just finished ‘Ashes to Admin’ by @christinamartin.bsky.social which I thoroughly enjoyed. I mean, I used to work in employment and am unbearably nosy about other people’s jobs and I work with a lot of end of life care, so of course it’d appeal to me, but I’d recommend it to other people too.

It’s fair to say that the dog is not impressed with my washing decisions.

A lovely morning, the seagulls and ducks and oystercatchers in full voice down at the river, and coming home to the sunflowers reaching up to the early sun. And then this: a wasp eating its breakfast pear.

I presume this is what they call whole foods.

Well then.

Everyone else is showing roses and peonies and mine are far from flowering yet. Instead I am loving the mock orange which has bloomed for the first time this year, despite an aphid infestation, alongside the forget-me-nots.

Look what I dug up from the garden this week! It was about 2 spades deep but in remarkably good nick, considering. I wonder who the kid was who left it long enough for it to gradually disappear from sight?

I ask you, how is a person supposed to seize the day when they’ve already been seized?

Such a mighty harvest! Well worth the time and energy. That will keep the beast from the door until Spring.
