Here in Illinois, ten years ago we saw the consequences of a rampant ideological gutting of government.
It genuinely harmed people. Our citizens hated it.

We had a session for grad students who are teaching for the first time this semester, and I noted that most policies on an instructor's syllabus are the result of an incident they had to confront in a prior term.
The same principle is true of regulations. These lessons were learned the hard way.
