Resting is a full time job.

This girl and her siblings were hiding under some trees, making it very hard for us to find them, but in the end and with a good eye we managed.

Alright i’m gonna try to be more active but uni (especially anatomy class) is kicking my butt right now…
We have an oral exam basically every other day and it’s just a lot of material, so I’m trying to stay away from my phone as much as possible.
How are you if you see this? :)

had a fun lecture today, watching my friends dog and learning about how to fix a broken jaw in a horse🐶🐎

Long train rides are so exhausting even though all I do is sit there

What are you looking at?!

Did you know that giraffe tongues typically get up to between 40 and 50cm?
They use them to grab leaves and branches to munch on.

Working at the vet office can be so exhausting, because people are exhausting.

The person sitting at reception or answering the phone isn’t responsible for whatever’s going on in your life…
I get life is frustrating and you may be emotional but don’t yell at people who aren’t at fault at all.

Sunsets in South Africa are just special.

When I volunteered in South Africa we had to get up early each morning to monitor the animals and one of the big upsides was that saw the sunrise every day.

Perhaps the most misunderstood animal in all of Africa.

Spotted hyenas are very successful hunters and help clean the ecosystem they live in by eating carcasses and thereby reducing the spread of diseases.

Never annoy the secretary!

Secretary Birds kill their prey by stomping on it. Their diet is made up of small mammals, reptiles, birds, large insects, and even snakes (including venomous ones).

Have you ever seen a baby hippo that thinks it’s a rhino?

This is Charlie. He was raised in a rhino orphanage and then later released into the wild.

Here’s the video of him in the orphanage:

Encounters with Elephants should always happen on their terms.

This is Apollo, my favorite desert elephant in Damaraland, Namibia.
He’s a juvenile bull, that can be identified by his broken right tusk and the big cut in his right ear.

does anyone have a camera recommendation that doesn’t cost an arm?
i know they’re expensive and i’m willing to pay some money but not an endless amount, considering i’m still practicing and wouldn’t use half the functions.

what’s most important to me is that’s it’s good for photographing wildlife!

Got a spontaneous message from work here back at home today asking if i could work some shifts this week, so i will be at the vets every day. Might share some pictures of that if it’s interesting to anyone :)

Look who’s all ears…

The big ears on African wild dogs help dissipate excessive heat and cool their body down. The larger external part also functions as a funnel to collect sound for better hearing.

A bit of snack with your sand?

Elephants will stand on their hind legs and repeatedly push trees to get fruit to fall down and in the desert that means they consume a fair amount of sand with their food.

Did you know that giraffe sleep laying down?

In Namibias Damaraland we saw a lot of them laying down in the shade or hiding from the sun behind big bushes and trees.

Did you know every cheetah has a unique spot pattern?

This makes them identifiable through pictures for research purposes.
The individual in this picture is CF9 who was with her two cubs at the time.

Even lions need their beauty sleep.

He was fitted with a tracking collar so that we could find him and his brothers for a future relocation to expand the gene pool in another reserve.

I thought I’d do an introduction post as it seems the way on here. I’m a professional photographer specializing in the ocean and the coast it carves. I’m lucky to be represented by some good galleries. I also teach workshops. I’ve been full-time for 9 years now - went fast!
