NYC-based neuro/H&N rad, LGBTQIA+ advocate, tech geek, player of niche sports, and photographer.
My favorite thing to watch lately is how many Republicans are arguing that pedophilia is a spectrum while simultaneously screaming that gender & sex are binary.

As a trans woman athlete, it is really painful to throw away a bunch of sports equipment because I know I’ll never be allowed to play again.

Med students, residents, & attendings: You’re never too good to help other people & there is no job or task that is beneath you. This doesn’t mean an obligation to do endless scut, but just be a good citizen. Those techs, nurses, & others are your team members & can teach you A LOT.

So, this is what it feels like to feel some kind of hope and excitement? It is a curious sensation. Forgot what it was like.

Just a normal Brooklyn fall afternoon.

Being incapable of accepting compliments, I never really believe anyone who tells me I’m a good photographer or that most of my stuff is that good, but I’m actually kinda proud of many of my photos over the last week. #photography #streetphotography

No matter how hard the right wing tries, they will never be able to compete with the sheer creative talent of people on the left.

Today for @theverge.com, I talk about transfem narratives: the epistemic lockout from mainstream publishing, the advantages and pitfalls of the self-pub model, and what a global transmisogynistic panic implies for our ability to make our voices heard and represent our own lives and worlds.
Trans women are building their own publishing world, and it’s under threat
Online communities are stepping in where traditional publishing stops.

The medical note phrasing “complains of” really bothers me.

It isn’t a complaint or some trivial grievance being aired. It is their experience.

Especially silly with trauma. “C/O of stab wound”….that’s a thing that happened.

Every now and then I walk through somewhere in my neighborhood and have a really magical experience with a sense of community where I’m reminded why I love NYC.

Had that in Tompkins Square Park this morning.

Some from the ICE protest tonight.

Wearing my work jacket (a big Jewish medical system) while getting food and a woman called me a “f*cking Jew lover.”

Gotta say, the old school antisemitism was a refreshing change from transphobia. Must be looking kinda cute today.

Not that I have a ton of followers on here, but what are your favorite substacks for journalism?

I’m trying to diversify my news sources and want to support real journalism since the big ones are seemingly all trash now.

Sure would be nice to not have numerous government officials and powerful people advocating for my eradication right now.

Every vaccination I get now feels extra empowering.

First thought when hearing Charlie Kirk was shot: “I really hope it was a right wing cis het white guy who did it.”

Second thought: “Oh nooooooo! Darn! Hate to see it…Anyway, I need more coffee.”

Any organization/society continuing to hold meetings in Texas or Florida tells me that they don’t care about my safety and do not deserve my money.

Cis friends,

I’d really appreciate if you actively push back against the “another trans shooter debate” nonsense. Be loud and aggressive in protecting trans people.

I’m reverting to my high school music phase and listening to a ton of Tool and nobody can stop me.

Stuff like this genuinely concerns me with the whole all gas, no brakes approach to AI in radiology (and medicine as a whole) now.
Some doctors got worse at detecting cancer after relying on AI
It’s the latest in worrying medical AI headlines.

Canned impressions in radiology reports that don’t specifically address the clinical question drive me insane.

Take 2 seconds more. Show you care and are paying attention to both the patient and ordering provider.

That is all.

Not the best optics for a healthcare system when an elderly woman is talking to her friend on the bus about how they are going to die because of your decisions.
