Regardless of all my years of academic training, what actually alerts me to the fact that I'm about to enter a great text? When the author acknowledges their cat with 2 paras & a full-page photo. That's love. And authenticity!

Since my PhD is on travel writing and I have a #tbi I figure there's a reasonable enough link to justify buying another awesome book 🤣
Looking forward to reading it very much.

Bryan demanding his share of my tea! He knows the sound of my hand picking up a cup & does a special little head bob, that means he wants some.
His favourite is cherry green (by Tugboat in Truro), but he's also fond of jasmine green, Pukka 'night time', & rooibos chai 🤣
He does NOT like ginger tea.

You know you've found the right neuropsychologist for a PhD researcher, when you end up making book recommendations for each other in the appointment!

Since the #TBI I've had to relearn HOW to research. The biggest challenge is the impact of screens on my wonky brain. Someone recommended yellow lenses so I'm testing them out (perched on my reading glasses 🤣), in addition to dictation software AND noise-cancelling headphones. I'll keep you posted!

So lucky to be with a wonderful man who has not only supported me through my #TBI but was up for an unconventional but truly fabulous Christmas Day spent in a beach hut at Lyme Regis! And yes, there were even sprouts ;)
Wishing everyone a safe and festive holiday.

Calling all #EnvironmentalHumanities scholars! I'm doing some informal research for my thesis, can you help?

Q. Where/How does travel writing scholarship sit within the Environmental Humanities (if it does at all)?

Also, hello 👋 can we connect on here?!

Bryan isn't generally very empathetic when I'm sick but this morning as an ocular migraine descended he decided the best way to show his love was to perch on my hip.
Neither of us was at all comfortable but I appreciate the thought 😻

Bryan now has his own bed next to me in my office, because previously he liked to sit on my back while I worked. It did make typing a little challenging and Bryan isn't a small cat either... his winter weight is 8kg! Not that I ever mind of course 😻

I realised that I haven't introduced Bryan the Bedouin Cat on here yet! He was born in the desert in Sinai, Egypt, where I was living 12 years ago, and came back home with me to England when he was 10 months old. Here are some pics of him hugging his birthday catnip carrot last month 😍

My confidence in my #academic writing has been at an all time low since my #headinjury . But this week, after presenting a paper (online) at my first conference since the accident, my work was referred to TWICE by one of the plenary speakers. A small moment that has made my year!!

Joining my first conference since the head injury... couldn't manage the travel to France to be with everyone in person so I'm sad about that - I love attending conferences! Plus I see tote bags😭
Thank you to all at CELIS for making digital attendance possible though, looking forward to today!

I always thought I'd been fairly organised with #phd research prior to my head injury. But now that I can't remember where everything is (notes, quotes and reviews), I wish I'd been SO much more rigorous. I waste so much time searching for things that I've already written!

I'm a PhD researcher who acquired a #braininjury in my 3rd year & I'm learning to write in a new way. I'll be sharing the process in case it's of interest/ helpful, so please follow if you or someone you know has experienced concussion, post-concussion syndrome or #headinjury , happy to chat too!

Since my head injury in 2022, moving from 'X' to #bluesky is the most exciting travel I've been able to manage 😉
But I'm happy to be here and look forward to engaging once again with the #travelwriting & #academic community on here. Please say hi!
