📍 Coastal Kent
Characteristically excellent local reporting from @edjennings.bsky.social today. "Kent has said for years that it cannot cope alone. Geography turned the county into the UK’s de facto reception service for unaccompanied children, and capacity has repeatedly buckled."

You’re telling me these are the gloves of a faithful?

(I did lol at the fact that Farage said some of this was 'utter bollocks' and then the NYT reporters had to explain what that means)

This piece suggests Nigel Farage's appearance in Congress last month was orchestrated by the ADF. He's gone from 'no stance' on abortion to calling for a debate on it.

This is how the ADF works: small, incremental successes. The first would be the parliamentary debate Farage has called for.

Bit of a case of tiny violins here, but this is a great chart from the Telegraph - goes to show why London is becoming an increasingly childfree city.

It's taken me a full week to process the total absence of data literacy in this. Let's pick it apart:

- 20,540 cycles of NHS-funded IVF, down 25% on 2016
- Heterosexual couples got 19,660 (down from 27,420 in 2016)
- Same-sex female couples got 405 (four hundred and five) (no 2016 figure)

I've just gone down a First Website Ever Made rabbithole (it's here > info.cern.ch) and there's an Etiquette page for people thinking of putting up their own web pages.

Look how optimistic they were! 'Be accountable'! 'Let users know if your information is reliable'! 🥺

OBSESSED with the breadth and variety of Labubu knockoffs available in Greek supermarkets.

Peculiar move from Y Factor, the sperm donation app I wrote about in last week's @theobserveruk.bsky.social.

They've taken a screenshot of the piece, photoshopped the headline to make it positive and posted it on Linkedin.

Actual piece vs fake below

Insane data from PitchBook: AI-based companies made up FIFTY THREE PER CENT of all venture capital raised globally in the second quarter of the year.

We are surfing high on the Peak of Inflated Expectations.

A fabulous nail in the coffin for that grumpy meme about using pop culture references to name scientific studies.

Still haven’t recovered from this abomination. Apparently it was good TV but I’m not sure because I was spending my whole time saying ‘wait. Didn’t he just get caught by the Germans?’

Lightning strikes near me right now. It’s like trying to go to sleep in the middle of a nightclub.

Apart from the development of the c-section, we've pretty much been giving birth the same way for centuries. A few upcoming advances mean things might soon change.

Exhausted after a busy day shitting on the floor and shouting at me about it.

I'm not, though, LinkedIn. I'm definitely not.

Just got an email from this address that purports to be from Instagram, and the whole thing is so convincing that I can't actually decide whether it's real or not.

Mind-blowing reporting by @danamattioli.bsky.social in this piece showing how Elon Musk weaponises his money to keep the mothers of his children in line.

Also this bit, which, coming from a man who insists he's the most intelligent person on earth, is... confusing.
