1/2 "A small group of authors, primarily from the Global North, dominates the field & largely promotes technology-focused framing. These findings point to intellectual hegemony in global just transition scholarship, shaping its discourse & potentially marginalising broader perspectives"

At the start of 2025 @wccalliance.bsky.social collaborated with the Class Work Project to co-edit a special, Just Transition themed edition of Lumpen journal. Featuring working class writers from across the Global North & Global South 🍃

"Some students worried about being perceived as complaining or troublesome by seeking support... combined with stereotypes around working-class laziness... these worries may become such that working-class students withdraw completely, even when desperately in need of support."

4/5 Majority stance from other participants re. the heat - but seems to revolve around the reality that humid heat = uncomfortable. Take away the humidity, and I imagine more people would be down for it (whatever the cost).

2/5 A lack of concern about the health-related impacts of heat does not necessarily equate to a lack of concern about climate breakdown. In this case, almost 80% of UK residents had some concern about climate change.

1/5 Yet another reason why climate communicators must aim to show how climate breakdown impacts people on a personal level:

"Results show that many vulnerable & potentially vulnerable adults do not consider hot weather to be a risk to their health"

2/3 "Hot homes are dangerous for health; cardiovascular and respiratory issues, sleep disturbance, mental health problems and heat exhaustion all correlate with high temperatures in the home."
August 11, 2025 at 8:53 AM
Zero self-awareness from the authors that they're replicating the very problems that they're highlighting in the article - no mention of positionalities, the problem of co-creating knowledge solely from people within academic institutions.

Let me get this straight - this is supposed to be a scoping (global) review of Indigenous knowledge but bodies of work can only be included if they've been written in English, French, German or Spanish... No acknowledgment re. everything that's wrong with that.

....

Oh COME ON
August 10, 2025 at 5:05 PM
From 2018, but depressingly still relevant regarding academia & Eurocentrism.

"There is emerging evidence of the important role of indigenous knowledge for climate change adaptation."

People who exist outside of the ivory tower's bubble have always known this...

"It’s important that working-class people who occupy positions of authority, or who have a public platform acknowledge how the politics of respectability work, and firmly reject methods to control working class people through judgement and shaming."

1/2 Stop second-guessing what people want & actively include them 📢

82% of Conservatives & 78% of Labour voters want to be involved in decisions that impact their local area. This is regarding energy developments but the sentiment generally applies to all changes.

Looking forward to speaking at the Green Gathering festival in Wales in a few weeks!
