a delayed thank you to the Oxford Graduate Archaeology Conference for the opportunity and privilege of speaking about my ongoing dissertation work. The study uses mitochondrial DNA to better understand the dispersal history of the pigeon using samples all from here in Oxfordshire.

Happy #NationalHedgehogDay!

This little model of a hedgehog was made around 1500–1300 BCE in Egypt.

Hedgehogs had a favourable reputation in ancient Egypt & were often seen as a symbol of rebirth & renewal of life, likely due to their reappearances after long periods of absence while hibernating.
